This is one of the best place for one/two day trip. Actually Khajuraho is small village in MP, Chatarpur district, but because of ancient temples and sculptures it has become an international tourist place. A quick internet search can give you all the information about it, so I will give just some "things to remember" while planning a trip from my personal experience.
Temples are divided in Eastern, Western and southern groups.
NOTE: Western group of temples are the main attraction, so, if you are planning to visit all the temples then first visit southern and eastern group. If you go for westerns first then you won't get much interest in remaining temples (that is what happened with me :( ). Most of the Erotica Sculptures are there in Western group.
TEMPLES: Before going to temples its better to read history else catch a guide there.
Remember:
*Khajuraho will be very hot in summer so, July-January would be the best period. One can take cycle on rent to visit all group of temples
* Raneh falls (20km from khajuraho) and Pandav falls(35km from khajuraho) are must visit places in the outskirts of Khajuraho, but they are seasonal; Most probably during rainy season. A quick internet search will be helpful for current status.

*Prefer to go by a cab or train (preferably cab) cause bus transport is pathetic, time consuming and, and listen to me just avoid it. If you are going by a cab then one day for temples and Raneh falls, and pandav falls on next day.
STAY: There are lots of luxury and normal hotels with nominal rates. Prefer hotels near to Western group of temples as cycles on rent are available nearby and it will be convenient for everything. For wildlife lovers stay at Panna National Park(if you are visiting) also be a good option.
I experienced that people in Khajuraho are so polite and helpful. Food is bit expensive but i think its OK, cuz tourism is the only source of income for the people over there.
Enjoy the trip...!!!
